Exploring Canmore from The Malcolm Hotel by Clique

As visitors to Canmore and Banff National Park, we respectfully acknowledge that we stand on Treaty 7 territory; the traditional lands of the Stoney Nakoda Nations of Wesley, Chiniki and Bearspaw, the three Nations of the Blackfoot Confederacy and the Tsuut'ina First Nations.

When I first arrived at the Malcolm Hotel by Clique in Canmore, I could hardly believe that such a luxurious boutique hotel even existed in such an serene, yet central location.

Located just across from the Spring Creek Boardwalk, you immediately get the feeling of being far from the busyness of town while being just a short five minute walk from downtown Canmore and its numerous shops, pubs & restaurants.

Excited for a relaxing weekend away, we arrived almost exactly in time for check-in and were promptly directed to our mountain view suite. At check-in we were also provided with all of the information that we would need to access the rooftop pool & hot tubs, as well as informed of their 24-hour front desk service to assist us at any time day or night.

The Malcolm Hotel features a total of 124 guest rooms ranging from their Standard Queen to their Mountain View Suite. Not only did our suite offer breathtaking views of Three Sisters Mountain Range, but boasted both a king size bed & seating area making it the most perfect (and spacious) home-base from which to explore the town of Canmore on foot & Kananaskis Country by car.

Located just 20 minutes outside of Banff & a 40 minute drive from Kananaskis Village, there are endless adventures available here for travelers visiting the Canadian Rockies.

If you have access to a vehicle, a few of our top recommendations include (but are certainly not limited to);

  • Lake Louise

    Lake Louise is a stunning glacial lake located in Banff National Park approximately 5 km West of the Hamlet of Lake Louise. The views of Lake Louise are both famous & stunning, but there are a variety of hiking trails surrounding the lake as well (our favorite being the Lake Agnes Teahouse hike).

  • Banff Gondola

    The mountain views here are seemingly endless & can be viewed with Banff Gondola from their rooftop viewing deck & mountain boardwalk.

  • Kananaskis Nordic Spa

    Kananaskis Nordic Spa is a hydrotherapy spa requiring a specific progression (or circuit) of treatments. Both relaxing and luxurious, you will not regret your time spent winding down here surrounded by mountains, forest & wildlife.

If you do not have access to a vehicle or would rather just stay close to town, there is also a great deal to enjoy within the town limits including;

  • Ha Ling Peak

    Just a few minutes outside of Canmore, this 3 - 4 hour hike is the perfect way to spend an afternoon and offers amazing views of both the mountains and the town.

  • Policeman’s Creek Boardwalk

    Located just across from The Malcolm Hotel, Policeman’s Creek Boardwalk is an easy and enjoyable walking trail for anyone who wants to get outdoors and enjoy the scenery.

    Traveler Tip: This boardwalk is also the perfect place to spot wildlife including the deer & elk that seem to quietly co-exist right in town.

  • Quarry Lake

    A short hike around Quarry Lake in Canmore is the perfect way to get out and enjoy some easy trails (especially for those traveling as a family). Not only is Quarry Lake a great place to swim in the summer, but a beautiful spot for mountain views in the winter.

No matter when you choose to visit, the town of Canmore has more than 71 km of multi-use trails within the town limits alone, which makes it the perfect place to explore on foot without sacrificing stunning views & access to the mountain wildlife.

When you return to The Malcolm after a day of exploring outdoors, retreat to your suite, head to the rooftop heated pool & hot tubs, or enjoy a meal at Stirling Grill (located on the main floor of the hotel).

I cannot say enough just how much we enjoyed our stay at The Malcolm Hotel by Clique, and we look forward to the chance to retreat to this perfect spot again soon.
